Gerald Timothy Carter, 80, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Southeast Georgia Health Center in Brunswick, GA. He was born on January 12, 1934 in Georgetown, SC, the son of Daniel Lafayette and Edna Fulton Carter.
Mr. Carter proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War, with an honorable discharge with the following: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Carter retired from Reynolds Aluminum as a machinist operator and was also employed by King & Prince Seafood.
Gerald (often called Jerry) enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of NASCAR and football.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Carter, his mother and father, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Spiten (Scott) of Rochester, MN; a son, Jerry Rowland (Lisa) of Derry, NH; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Miriam Mappin and Frances Croslyn (Raymond) of St. Simons Island, Holly Wadsworth (Jeff) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; nieces and nephews; dear friends; and his beloved Chihuahua “Tiger”.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Veterans Administration and Brightstar of Coastal Georgia. Special thanks are also extended to Dr. Skelton and staff; Drs. Fussell and Chitty and staff of the SICU; Dr. Moran and staff of the Oncology Unit, and Heartland Hospice for the comfort and care provided to our loved one and family.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Crandall officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Chapel Park Cemetery.
