

Gerri Thompson, 74, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles. A native of Cedartown, Georgia, Mrs. Thompson had been a resident of Brunswick for the past 35 years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Belton Glenn and the late Mrs. Ella Evelyn Morrison Glenn. Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Cedartown High School. She was also a member of the New Life Sanctuary. She served as the Children’s Ministry Director, Sunday school teacher, Summer Youth Camp Director and Bible school Director. Mrs. Thompson was employed by various churches throughout the years working as church secretary, as well as Children Ministry Director including music, art, and drama. Throughout her years of teaching at Brunswick Christian Academy she taught Pre-K through High School as well as drama and music. During her summers off from teaching, she also ran various summer camp outreach ministries for children and was lodge mother for various youth camps.
Mrs. Thompson, a former pastor’s wife, enjoyed collecting angel figurines, and was an accomplished seamstress and homemaker.
She assisted her husband Mr. Robert L. Thompson with grafting and raising queen bees shipped all over the world through Holy Bee Farm.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband Jerry W Newsome and her second husband Robert L Thompson.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Jackson of Savannah and Tina Quinn of Hortense; two sons, Jeff Newsome and Shawn Thompson, both of Brunswick; three step daughters, Sharon Glisson, Beverly Johnson and Kim White, all of Baxley: nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Jean Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Joe Charles Glenn of Cedartown, GA; and several other family members.
Family will receive friends Thursday, January 15, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Kirk Brown and Reverend Jamie Jackson officiating. A visitation will also be held at Olin L. Gammage Funeral Home 106 North College Street Cedartown, GA, Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Serving pallbearers will be Tony Chasteen Sr, Albert Chasteen, Terry Jackson, Steve Hutcheson, Johnny Owens and Frank Whisenant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr Wade Strickland, Hospice of the Golden Isles and past friends and students from Brunswick Christian Academy
