The funeral service will be held at 11 AM with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Christian Life Center at College Place United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rob Grotheer officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service.
Hal was born August 5, 1944 in Bryn Mawr, PA, the firstborn son of Claire Louise German and the late Harold Feeney, Sr. (CDR USN). Because Hal’s father worked for the State Department and the US Navy, he spent his formative years living in different countries such as Ecuador, Panama and France. His family eventually settled in Arlington, VA where he graduated from Wakefield High School in 1963. After high school, Hal followed in his father’s footsteps and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1965. He married Barbara Ann Haney on August 13, 1966 and just recently celebrated fifty years of marriage. They lived and raised their five children in Woodbridge, VA where the family was actively involved in their local church and community. As a father, Hal was a true family man and over the years opened his heart and home to countless friends and neighbors. He loved his Weber Grill, the beach, our family pool, climbing Old Rag Mountain, and sunset photos. A gifted musician, Hal used his love for music to serve the Lord in the church worship band as a drummer for many years. He spent the majority of his career in the automotive industry working in both the sales and service departments for local dealerships, including twenty-five years at Hendrick Honda, in Woodbridge, Virginia. His loyal customer following spanned generations, and he was known for his kindness, honesty, and integrity by both his customers and coworkers. Hal had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious smile, positive attitude, and a love for puns.
While Hal and Barbara were enjoying retirement in Brunswick, GA, he loved helping others in his free time. He recently assisted with the renovations to the Christian Life Center at College Place UMC.
In addition to his father, Hal is preceded in death by his youngest brother, David Whitney Feeney.
Survivors include Hal’s mother, Claire German (Edward) of Arlington, VA and brother Charles (Jennifer) and nephew, Daniel of Frederick, MD; his stepmother, Lydia “Lyke” Feeney of Corpus Christi, TX; a sister on his father’s side, Elizabeth Tajiani of Tampa, FL and niece, Farah of Savannah, GA; his loving wife of fifty years, Barbara, of Waverly, GA; sons Michael and children, Brittney and Jessica, of Stafford, VA; Bryan (Julie) and children, Jackson and Nathan, of Brunswick, GA; Christopher (Elizabeth) and children, John Mac and Claire, of Raleigh, NC; John (Jessica) and children, James, Jack, and Jay, of Vienna, VA; and daughter Anne-Marie Bostain (John) and children, Ryan, Colin, Julia, and Daniel of Brunswick, GA.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Hal, the family requests memorial contributions to the UF Health Heart and Vascular Hospital and UF Health Neuromedicine Hospital projects (heartsandminds.ufhealth.org), CaringBridge via Hal’s website (caringbridge.org/visit/halfeeneyjr), or the gofundme campaign for miscellaneous travel expenses (https://www.gofundme.com/hal-feeney-recovery-fund).
