Herb was born in Kirtland, Ohio and grew up on the east side of Cleveland. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served our country in WWII earning three Bronze Stars. After his honorary discharge and using the engineering knowledge gained in the Pacific Theater he founded Campbell’s Erosion Control. It was his skill and expertise in the industry that brought him to the Golden Isles in 1990 being recruited by the Sea Island Company to save the North end of the island. Herb was a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Christ Church. He loved to dance, garden, and most of all spend time with family. Herb was known as the low country boil “master," an expert at cooking BBQ ribs, and spending time sipping margaritas at Bubba Garcias. He was fondly known as Papa to all and was a prime example of the Greatest Generation!
Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife Anita and his parents, Arthur and Loretta Cash Campbell.
He is survived by thirteen children, Carl, Herbie, Peggy, Connie, Lorie, John (Jeanine), Katie (Tom), Anita, Julie, Robbie, Geoffrey (Scott), Lawrence (Angela), and Christopher; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
