

Howard Allan Poe, 62, of Brunswick departed his life Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Memorial Health in Savannah. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at the Maryanne Lake Circle family compound, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 6 pm.
Born January 6, 1961 in Sanford, NC to the late Allan Augustus Poe and Evelyn Grace H. Poe, he had been a resident of Brunswick for 22 years. Mr. Poe was the owner of American Dock Builders and Coastal Marine Center. He was a member of Cowboy Church. Mr. Poe was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed hunting, horses, spending time with his precious family, playing his guitar for friends and family, travel, and working with his tractor and other heavy equipment developing the Lake Maryanne home place for his family. He was loved by all and was always the life of the party. He loved life. His proudest accomplishment was watching his children grow and their successes in life; both professionally and personally.
He was a graduate of North Carolina State University holding a degree in Turf Management. Prior to relocating to Georgia, he held several positions as golf course superintendent at various North Carolina Golf Courses.
Howard fondly known as “Capt. HAP”, competed on the Southern Kingfish Association Trail and SKA PRO TOUR for over 25 years. He proudly held the 1996 SKA National Angler of the Year title. It was competing on the SKA Trail and Pro Tour Trail that he met the love of his life and wife, Donna.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna Gowen Poe, two children, Josh Poe and wife Ginny, and Jessica Coleman and husband Parker all of Maryanne Lake Circle in Brunswick, a step daughter, Sarah Gowen of Atlanta, two grandchildren, Emma Gracelyn Poe, and James Allan “Jac” Coleman, two sisters, Donna Conrad and Tonia Poe, a brother, Gregory Poe, all of Sanford, NC, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a stepson, Matthew Gowen.
