Hugh Spencer Tait Jr., known affectionately as Spencer, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, in Brunswick, Georgia. Born in 1928 at City Hospital in Brunswick to Hugh Spencer and Pearl Tait, Spencer spent his entire life in Glynn County. His spiritual journey began early in life, as he was baptized at First Baptist Church of Brunswick in 1940.
During the Korean War, Spencer served honorably in the United States Army, fulfilling the role of chief motor pool mechanic. After returning home from service, Spencer married Bonnie Moore. Together, they raised four children and celebrated seventy-two years of marriage. For thirty-five years, Spencer and Bonnie owned and operated Tait Feed and Seed Co. in Brunswick and Sterling, leaving a lasting legacy within the community.
Spencer is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Ann Morgan (Barry); and his son, Tim Tait (Nancy). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer; Jayson (Becky) and Jeff Stewart; Amber Thornton (Matt); Tyler Tait; Derek, Matt, and Allie Morgan; Eliza Buice (Ryan); and Spencer Tait; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Marsha Tait; his son, Trey Tait; and his brother, Dick Tait.
Spencer will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his kindness toward others, and his remarkable ability to repair almost anything—a skill affectionately referred to by his children as “Poppyfied.”
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Brunswick on Wednesday, November 19 at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Spencer be directed to a charity or cause of your choosing.
