Inez was born on June 18, 1921, in Montclair, New Jersey. Although she grew up in the Northeast, where she was graduated from The Kimberley School in Montclair in 1938 and from Vassar College in 1942, she spent her summers at her grandmother’s stately home in Waynesboro, Ga, and always considered herself a southerner at heart. In the early years of her marriage to Robert M. Green, Jr., she moved often with him and their five children, living in Idaho, New Jersey, Canada, and New York, but in 1966, they finally settled in Saint Simons Island, home at last.
Inez was a volunteer with the Hospice of the Golden Isles and at Christ Church Frederica in the Angels Guild and as a member of Daughters of the King. She was an avid reader and maintained a lifelong interest in literature and classical culture. A stickler for perfect spelling and grammar, she edited proof for the three novels written by her son, George. She loved playing bridge, and she was a shark at poker. A month before her passing, she played a late-night high stakes game of 7-card stud with her friends. She took everyone’s money.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert M. Green, Jr., for many years the wire editor at the Brunswick News, and her second husband A.H. “Bose” Koldeway, of Brunswick.
Inez is survived by her sister, Alice Mann, of Waynesboro, Ga; by three daughters, Omie Kerr of Seattle, Wa; Burchenal Green of Cortlandt Manor, NY, and Alyce Green of Edmonds, Wa; and by two sons, Robert M. Green, III, of Saint Simons Island and George Dawes Green, of Savannah, Ga. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Church Frederica at 1:00, Wednesday, July 6. Family and friends are invited to a reception in the Parish Hall following the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Ga, 31520.
