

Irvin Eugene Davis, 98, of Brunswick, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at SGHS in Brunswick. Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, December 3, 2010 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Landrum officiating. Entombment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Tim Short, Billy Strickland, Alton Walling, Judge James Tuten, James Bishop, and Jimmy Brumit will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Tucker, Joe Slaughter Sr., Randy Nazzarie, Belinda West, Ingrid Metz, Brian Metz, Danielle Metz, Thomas Dennard, and members of Ocean Lodge 214 F. & A.M.
Born October 3, 1912 in Bibb County, Georgia to the late Louis and Estelle Haley Davis, he retired as a electrical supervisor from Brunswick Pulp and Paper in 1975 after 34 1/2 years of service. In his younger days he was an avid motorcyclist riding a 1930 Harley-Davidson. In 1939 he took flying lessons and became a Civil Air Patrol. In the pre war and early war years he patrolled the Georgia coast for German Submarines. In 1945 he joined the Masons and became Master of the Ocean Lodge in 1950. In 1987 he was elected Mason of the year for the 11th district of the Grand Lodge of Georgia. He was a member of Norwich Baptist Church. Mr. Davis was a true southern gentleman, refined and noble. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Alma Marie Miller Davis, a grandchild, Sandy Graham, and a sister Laverne Peavy.
Survivors include a step son, Paul D. Smith, and a step daughter, Virginia S. Dawson both of Brunswick, six grandchildren, Dottie Short and husband Tim of Brunswick, Darlene Williams and husband Ron of Lexington, KY, Ginny Dawson of St. Simons Island, Cindy Davis of Atlanta, Bill Smith and wife Fran of Zebulon, GA, and Paul Smith Jr. and wife Maria of Aiken, SC, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and several great great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including special nieces, Susan Peavy Brooks and husband Richard, Donna Peavy Buck and husband Perry, a beloved caregiver, Belinda West, and a host of friends and extended family.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
