He was pre-deceased by his parents, Julius and Jeanette Schechter Essick; brothers, Maurice and David Essick, sisters, Charlotte Essick Yaffe and Ruth Essick Rahal; daughter, Sandra Essick Harper; and son, Jeff Essick.
Lou was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio where he attended Woodward High School. Lou joined the Army and served in the 776th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in Europe during World War II. After the war, Lou was a popular radio and television personality in Wilmington, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; Rome, Georgia; Marietta, Georgia; and Waycross, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Essick of Brunswick; brother, Sylvan Essick and wife Rita of Lima, Ohio; sons, Lou Essick, Jr and wife Gail of Canton, Georgia and Ron Essick and wife Judy of Brandon, Florida; sisters-in-law, Fay Easterling and Kathy Ogden of Brunswick; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Lou’s memorialization was by cremation. His wishes were to not have any services.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
