

Jack Marlin Amie, Sr., 91, of Flint, MI; Lincoln, MI; and St. Simons Island, GA died peacefully Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for the family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, St. Simons Island, GA with Pastor Paul Elbert officiating.
Jack was born on February 2, 1919 in Flint, MI. He attended Flint Central High School following which he became a journeyman electrician and worked in the Flint, MI area. He joined the Navy in August of 1941, and fought in the North Atlantic on a destroyer during WWII. On a short leave home to Flint, MI on September 26, 1942, he married Anna Burr in Flint, MI, immediately returning to duty in the North Atlantic. Discharged from the Navy in 1945, he returned to Flint, MI where he worked as an assistant plant engineer for the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Corporation until his retirement in 1980. Following his retirement, he spent his summers at their cottage in Michigan and winters on St. Simons Island with their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. During his time on St. Simons he was active with Habitat for Humanity and Manna House. During their 65 years of marriage, Jack and Anna enjoyed attending high school football and basketball games, travel through Michigan and to Georgia. Jack was an avid golfer and played the game until late in his life. He was a lifelong Lutheran, attending the Lord of Life Lutheran Church on St. Simons which was a source of Christian inspiration and strength. Jack was an active, industrious person and was well known by his friends for repair of electrical problems in their homes or businesses. He will be missed greatly by all who had the privilege to meet and know him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna L. Burr; Donna Amie, sister; Louise Buchanan, aunt; and Richard Burr, brother-in-law.
Surviving are two sons, Jack M. Amie, Jr., M.D. (Lynne) St. Simons Island; Richard C. Amie, Flint, MI; two grandsons, Matthew R. Amie (Tonya) Brunswick; Michael S. Amie, St. Simons Island; two great-granddaughters Madelyn Elizabeth Amie and Aniston Reyna, Brunswick; two cousins, Mary Wolski, Flint, MI and Jane Mitchell (Bud), Buchanan, MI.
