Jacqueline married her love, Orvid Lee Hamilton, in June 1949. Their family grew to include seven children: Edward (Carol), Bobby (Christine), Donna (Freddy) Merritt , Charles (Peggy), David, Cathy (Joey) Vicent and Jimmy (Carolyn). Their family grew in love to include eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Jackie (or Aunt Jack to some) was an avid and accomplished seamstress. She loved nothing more than to sew and garden. She proudly created her daughter’s wedding dresses, sewed matching outfits for all her grandchildren throughout the years and created quilts for each new baby.
Jackie loved being in her yard and garden (shoes optional) and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. She learned the art of canning at an early age, which proved useful as her family grew. Strangers were known to pull into her yard to admire and ask questions. They always went away with a handful of blooms or a clipping from her diverse landscape.
Independent, strong, and loving, Jackie was never bothered by small inconveniences. She loved her family and always took care of everyone; her siblings after her mother passed, her children and then her grandchildren. Sunday mornings were spent at Glyndale Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member of the Willing Workers/Joyous Seekers Sunday School Class, and helped in the children’s nursery for many years. Sunday dinner had everyone crowded around the table for “Mama’s” amazing cooking, where she welcomed everyone to come sit and share a meal!
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Allie Mae & Atkinson Martin of Alma, her husband of 59 years Orvid Hamilton, her sisters Delsie Ferguson, Eleanor Miller, Gail Manders and her brothers Denvil Martin, Downing Martin and Roger Smith. She is survived by her sister Carolyn Dixon of Alma, and her children and extended family. Jackie leaves a legacy of strength, love, and resilience and will be missed by all.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral home.
