James Wynan Bowen Sr.

James Wynan "J.W." Bowen Sr., age 80, of Waynesville, GA passed away on Saturday November 4, 2017. J.W. was born January 6, 1937 in Blackshear, Georgia to Maggie Bowen and L.K. Bowen. He was a graduate of Blackshear High School and had been a resident for the past 23 years of Waynesville, GA.

J.W. began his working career in the insurance profession as manager of Independent Life Insurance Company and as Family Service Counselor with Edo Miller and Son's Funeral Home. After retiring from the insurance profession he continued working at Piggly Wiggly in Nahunta. He served as president of the Brunswick Lion's Club and the Georgia Underwriters Life Insurance Association. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club. Those who knew and loved J. W. will remember him for his love of fishing, golfing, and gardening. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and was of the baptist faith.

J.W. is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Edith Daniels Bowen of Waynesville, GA; son Jerome Buchanan and wife Marcella of Dallas Texas; son Micheal Buchanan of Waynesville, GA; son James W. Bowen, Jr. and friend Rochelle of Brunswick, GA; and daughter Brigitte B. Lee and husband Timothy of Brunswick, GA; sister Saundra Bowen Aldrich of Blackshear, GA; granddaughter Courtney Buchanan Barnard of Waynesville, GA, granddaughter Maggie Yeomans Harrell ,grandson James Buchanan, and grandson Drew Bowen all of Brunswick, GA, granddaughter Jessica Lee Pittman of Waycross GA, grandson Timothy "Hugh" Lee. Jr., of Waynesville, GA.

J. W. is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

J.W. was preceded in death by; father L.K. Bowen and mother Maggie Bowen.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with Reverend Monroe Gill speaking at 3:30 p.m. and military honors at 4 :30 p.m. Thursday, the 9th of November 2017 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick.
