James C. Dunlap, Jr., 78, of Darien, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his residence. Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Darien with Father Ted Clarkston officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery.
Born May 25, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late James C. Dunlap Sr. and Lucile S. Dunlap; he was a graduate of Georgia Tech and served in the US Army. He was the owner of the insurance agency Dunlap and Company, Atlanta Georgia and a long time member of the Piedmont Driving Club and the Nine O'Clocks.
Mr. Dunlap was a resident of Darien for 22 years and served as chairman of the McIntosh County Development Authority. During his tenure as chairman he was instrumental in the development of the Darien Outlet Mall and the creation of the Waterfront Park in Darien. Mr. Dunlap was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and was an avid boater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Virginia Shelton. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Birte Dunlap of Darien; two daughters, Katherine S. Dunlap (Jim), of Livingston, MT, Cile D. Wilson of Atlanta; four sons, Steven Foster, Michael Foster, Kennan Foster (AJ), and Travis Foster (Joy), all of Brunswick; as well as seven grandchildren, Samuel Stone Wilson, Whitley Harper Wilson, Brandon Foster, Haley Hathaway, Heather Hall, Alexa Foster, and Chelsea Boyd, and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, June 4, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Darien. Memorials may be made to HART, P.O. Box 936, Darien, Georgia 31305.
