James Patrick Flora

James P. Flora, 76, of Brunswick, departed this life Tuesday February 7, 2017 at SGHS of Glynn. Patrick was a native of Elm City, North Carolina High, and a Graduate of Elm City High Class of 1959. He received a degree for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Dale Institute of Asheville NC. He was the Director of Laboratory Services in Jenkins KY and Louisburg NC. In 1996, the Floras relocated to Brunswick GA, and he retired as a lab technician from Southeast Georgia Health Systems after 10 years of service. Mr. Flora has been a resident of Glynn County for the past 21 years and was a member of the St. Simons Island Community Church and a devoted fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Patrick enjoyed Golf and fishing. Earlier in his career he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and sponsored the youth participating in the High School Key Club. He was an active mentor for

many youth in Elm City NC, Jenkins KY, and Louisburg NC. Pops spent many hours “carrying” his grandson’s golf friends, attending Glynn Academy, to practice before they were driving age.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 27 years, Diona B. Flora of Brunswick, a daughter, Robin Rawls and husband Tim of St Simons Island, two grandsons, Tallis and Weston Rawls, a sister Katrina Vick and husband Horace of La Grange, NC and a nephew Chris Vick and his family.
