Jim was born in Brunswick to parents James William Holland, Sr., and Sarah Elizabeth Connally Holland. He was a graduate of Glynn Academy, class of 1966. After high school, Jim joined the US Air Force and served in Vietnam. Once discharged, he returned to Brunswick and worked at B & W as a supervisor until the plant closed. Jim also joined the 224th JCSS Air National Guard and retired after 22 years of service. He also retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked as a control room operator.
Socially, Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick, Elks Lodge #691 and VFW Post 2588. He loved going to the beach, especially Delray Beach where the family has a home. He was a social person who loved spending time with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, his son, Christopher James Holland, who was killed in 2003 during active duty in Iraq making Jim a Gold Star Father, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sara Ann Holland Snow and her husband, Robert G. Snow and a brother in law, Reggie Abbott, Jr.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Amanda Leigh Holland (Hope) of Brunswick; a sister, Sheryl Oberly (Rodney) of Fredericksburg, VA; the mother of his children, Mary Jo Abbott Holland of Brunswick; his longtime companion, Patti Parker of St. Simons Island; a sister in law, Bunny Abbott of Fayetteville, GA, several nieces and nephews and his best four legged friend, Henry.
Jim will be laid to rest with full military honors at Georgia Veterans Cemetery. The service will be private.
The family suggests donations to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
