James “PeeWee” Johnson, 88, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Southeast Georgia Health System Senior Care Center.
A funeral Service will be held on Monday December 3, 2012 at Taylor’s United Methodist Church with Reverend Whit Kirkland officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Taylor’s United Methodist Church Cemetery.
PeeWee was born June 22, 1924 in Fall River, MA to the late Mary Elizabeth LaRue and the late James Johnson.
He served in the US Navy as a machinist during WWII, then went to work for Hercules, where he retired after 32 years. He then joined Dominey Machine Shop in Brunswick, retiring after 15 years.
Never one to be still, PeeWee will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather with an adventurous spirit that loved sailing and being outdoors and around the water.
In addition to his parents, Peewee is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lee Andreu Johnson.
He is survived by his children Polly McDonald (Paul) of St. Marys, Courtney Baggett (Hugh), Cathy Austin (Skip) and Jimmy Johnson (Delane) all of Bruswick, two brothers Clifford Johnson of Tiverton Rhode Island and Henry Johnson of St. Simons Island. Mr. Johnson Is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 ½ Great grandchildren and 5 Great –Great Grandchildren.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Harold Moore Jr, James Johnson III, Jacob Johnson, Nick Ferra , Dayton Austin and Andy James .
Honorary Pallbearers are Adam Austin and Timothy McDonald
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Taylors United Methodist Church, 766 Old Jesup Rd, Brunswick, GA 31520
