Oran was born September 10, 1929 in Brunswick, Georgia the son of the late James William Taylor and the late Maggie Brown Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Lockhart Taylor; two sisters, Delores Swink and Hazel Yeargin; also a brother, Wilbert Taylor.
Oran was a graduate of Glynn Academy with the class of 1948. After high school he served his country with honor in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Oran became an employee of the United States Postal Service. He retired as a Mail Carrier after thirty-two years of dedicated service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. He was also a Bible Scholar and held steadfast in his Christian beliefs. Oran was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Brunswick. He was also active in the adult leadership of the Boy Scouts of America and was presented with the Woodbadge and the Order of the Arrow.
Left to cherish Oran’s memories are his son, Devin Mark Taylor MS, LPC (Kelly McDaniel) of Brunswick, GA; a daughter, Linda Chafin Perry RN of Burlington, NC; a stepson, Joey Chafin of Brunswick, GA; eight grandchildren, Matthew Taylor, Maggie Taylor Ireland (Dayton), William Luke Taylor, Mollie Anna Taylor, Jonathan Dewayne Johnson (Laura), Emory Josh Keen (Bethany), Jamie Leigh Keen, and Jenny Lynn Perry; one sister, Lynette Taylor Brown; and one brother, Donald Greer Taylor. Numerous great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren survive. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Oran loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was also an avid marksman and a gun collector. He enjoyed golfing and camping. He was a master outdoorsman and will be remembered for his knowledge of nature. Oran will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
A celebration of life service will be held to honor Oran’s life at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Crandall officiating.
