Jeanie was born in Blue Ridge, Georgia on June 26, 1922 to the late Thomas and Augusta Dobbs. After high school, Jeanie attended the University of Georgia and graduated in 1944 with a Bachelor’s degree at a time when few women attended college.
While at the University of Georgia, Jeanie met Athley Jordan of Waycross, Georgia, whom she married in 1945. Jeanie and Athley moved to Brunswick in 1948 where Athley opened and for many years operated Jordan Furniture on Norwich Street in downtown Brunswick. Their son Randy was born in 1951.
Jeanie and her family were proud residents of downtown Brunswick and active members of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick. She was also blessed with many close friends, many of whom she played bridge with for years.
Following Athley’s death in 1982, Jeanie remained actively involved with her church, friends and family. She worked in the church’s daycare program for many years and travelled extensively with friends and family. Jeanie was also always a kind, patient and beloved grandmother.
Jeanie is survived by her son Randy of St. Simons Island, as well as three grandsons and daughters-in-law: Christopher and Christy Jordan of St. Simons, Benjamin and Christie Jordan of Atlanta, and Thomas and Dabney Jordan of Atlanta. Jeanie is also survived by six great grandchildren: Julia (age 11), Alex (age 8), David (age 8), Robert (age 5), Claire (age 3) and Grant (age 1).
There will be a private funeral service at Palmetto Cemetery on Friday, April 1.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Golden Isles Youth Orchestra.
