Born in Jamestown, New York, to James S. Sargent and Clara (Woodring) Sargent. She was the oldest (mother hen) of three daughters, Nancy and Margaret (Peggy). Father James maintained mill equipment throughout the northeast US. The family moved to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and settled in Glenside, PA.
Here, Jeanne obtained a medical secretarial degree from Jefferson Medical University in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation, she secured an administrative assistant position for the dean proficient in shorthand and Latin.
In Philadelphia, Jeanne met Howard Bell Klippel, a handsome bright Mechanical Engineer fresh out of the military and University of VA. The two courted and were married in Glenside September 15, 1956. The joyful young couple built a home in Abington, where two loving sons were born. James Howard Klippel and Jeffrey Paul Klippel. Always the adventurers, the couple boated on the Chesapeake Bay, riding horses, exploring parks, national monuments and Appalachia. In 1961, the family moved south to stay. In Florida, Howard secured employment in the aerospace industry. Jeanne’s passion and compassion for giving to others, organizational skills, always found open arms. A scout den mother, a volunteer at hospitals, a PTA mother were some of her gifts to each community. As a mother for her boys all things were important, from teaching etiquette to tying a shoe. Howard's engineering skills found the eye of a budding company Scientific Atlanta and Jeanne said, follow your heart. As an S/A technical consultant to the US Navy, the family uprooted again and moved to a home he designed near Annapolis, MD, and then to the headquarters in Atlanta. Here, Jeanne applied her kindness and skills in hospitality as a doctors professional assistant and at Northside brokers real estate office number one.
With retirement in sight and the boys starting families, Jeanne and Howard planned their next great adventure. To live aboard a boat and travel the waters. The Seamist, brought the exploring couple to the Bahamas, and coastal southeast. Here they discovered Darien, living aboard and cruising the back waters. As roots were set down in the beautiful low country, the couple built one more home on the marsh.
Jeanne and Howard’s "rock" grew to become a great fellowship centered in faith and St Andrew's Episcopal Church. Every new sunrise on the Spartina grass brought new enthusiasm and a quest to learn and socialize. No detail was too small or no task too overwhelming. Always with joy and a smile, Jeanne volunteered time and baking talents for the LAHS, Golden Isles Power Squadron, volunteer fire department, Daughters of the American Revolution, her church, vestry, and the food pantry. Baking and preparing "comfort food" for all.
Valentine’s day, and the first day of Lent, the Lord called Jeanne home. May her angels deliver Jeanne to her waiting forever soulmate Howard.
All creatures great and small, all people young and old were touched by a mother, a mom, a lady, a glowing giving soul, seeking harmony, instilling wonder, and peace wherever she traveled. True, sincere, friendship is everlasting.
