Dr. Jeffrey Patrick Gunderson, age 69, died peacefully in his sleep at his residence on Friday February 25th from cardiac arrest. Jeff was born in Albuquerque, NM on April 11, 1952. His family moved to Iowa when he was a baby and later to Minneapolis, MN where he attended high school and then college at The University of Minnesota. Jeff received a full scholarship to play football as a Golden Gopher and went on to graduate as a Doctor of Medicine. In 1984 he moved to Brunswick, GA to work in the Emergency Room at Brunswick Hospital (now SEGH), where he worked for 14 years until becoming the primary physician at Glynn County Detention Center.
Jeff loved fishing, football, and the beach (especially the Bahamas). Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, John Pierce Gunderson and Dorothy Swinton Gunderson, and his brother Chris Gunderson. Survived by his loving wife of 26 years Kelly Tresher Gunderson, his four children Derek Gunderson, Laura Gunderson, Madison Burgner and Pierce Gunderson his three grandchildren Daphne, Bella, and Thomas, and his brothers Pete and John and their families.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Monday April 11th, which would’ve been his 70th birthday, on the beach to the left of King and Prince at 5:00 pm.
