Born in Greensboro, Georgia, Jerry was the son of the late Julian and Lyra Beall Glass. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Georgia.
A talented musician, Jerry played the electric keyboard and sang with The Royal Five band and later The Oconee Band. His love of music and performing brought joy to many throughout his life.
Jerry devoted more than 25 years of service to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Macon, Georgia, where he worked as Chief Bankruptcy Clerk until his retirement. He and his beloved wife, Melody Ayle Glass, often dreamed of one day retiring to the beach, where they could enjoy peaceful walks by the shore together. Sadly, Melody passed away before that dream could come true. In time, Jerry honored that dream for both of them when he moved to St. Simons Island, finding comfort and renewal in the sound of the waves and the beauty of the coast they both loved. During his retirement, Jerry enjoyed long walks on the beach and gave generously of his time as a longtime volunteer with The Sparrow’s Nest, a nonprofit crisis center in Brunswick.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Melody, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Jan Glass. He is survived by his other sister, Lynne Herndon (Ronnie) of Kathleen, Georgia; two aunts, Carrie Brown and Sara Nell King; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Jerry’s request, all services will be private.
