Jewel Odell Bacon Luke

Jewel Odell Bacon Luke, 79, of Darien, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Funeral services will be held 11AM Thursday, September 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Darien with Rev. Jack Peeler officiating. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park with Gary Ryals, Ritchie Ryals, Mark Crosby, Mike Crosby, Marshall Lumley, Darrell Owens, and Ronnie Owens serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Rainbow Sunday School Class, John Long, John Kidd, Buford Durrence, Ronnie Davis, Jimmy Townsend, Dr. Gifford Lorenz, Stacy Baker, P.A., Dr. Wade Strickland, and Dr. Gregory Borak.

Born August 21, 1934 in Tattnall County Georgia to the late Luther B and Dorothy H. Bacon, she was a former supervisor with Roger Hammond Corporation. Mrs. Luke was a member of First Baptist Church in Darien. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow W. Luke, a sister Virginia Crosby, and a brother Gene Bacon.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Spaulding and husband Randy of Brunswick, and Kathy Kicklighter and husband Jimmy of Bluffton, SC, two sons Jeff Luke of Darien, and Spud Fowler and wife Shannon of Darien, grandchildren, Lee Callahan, Jennifer Shields, Zak Spaulding, David Kicklighter, Luke Kicklighter, Christopher Luke, Carley Luke, Jacob Luke, Stuart Fowler, Jr., and Ashley Fowler, six great grandchildren, three sisters, Mary Kate Fleming and husband Bill, Corabelle Owens, and Rita Young and husband Glenn, all of Darien, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10AM until the funeral hour at First Baptist Church of Darien. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, First Baptist Church of Darien, Shriners Hospital, Tampa FL, or Hospice of The Golden Isles.
