

John “Tommy” Hunter, 83, of Brunswick, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday February 18, 2013 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, February 22, 2013 at Northside Baptist Church in Brunswick with Rev. Craig Hartzog, Rev. Jimmy Guffey, Rev. Scott McVey, and Rev. Stanley Luke officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery with Ben Morris, Larry Kersey, Matt Norman, Junior Baker, James Davis and Buddy Baker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Northside Baptist Mens 3 Sunday School Class, The Golden Dreamers, Northside Baptist Church Ushers and Employees at Sears Manor.
Born August 26, 1929 in Appling County to the late Andrew C. and Lotus S. Hunter, he was a resident of Glynn County most of his life. Mr. Hunter was a former MSGT with the National Guard 48th infantry and was the former owner of Hunters Superette, retiring in 1992. Mr. Hunter served on the tax equalization board for several years in Glynn County, and he was also a member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as head of ushers for 28 years. Mr. Hunter enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred Capps, and a great grandson, David Oswalt.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary L. Hunter of Brunswick, a son, Bobby Hunter and wife Jana of Brunswick, four daughters, Diane H. Norman and husband, Gary of Columbia, AL, Denise Morris and husband Chet, Sheryl Middeke and husband Bart, and Celeste Hall all of Brunswick. He also had ten grandchildren, David, Jenny, Michael, Matt, Sarah, Heather, Ben, Carol, Chloe, and Claire, fourteen great grandchildren, and a close nephew, Charles West.
