A graduate of King College and Columbia Theological Seminary, Dr. Law served as the pastor of churches in North Carolina, LaGrange and West Point, Georgia, the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, Georgia, and the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, South Carolina. John then served as the senior pastor of St. Simons Presbyterian Church from 1981 until 1996, when he was called to become the executive presbyter of Savannah Presbytery. Subsequently, he served as interim pastor at several churches, including Frederica Presbyterian Church and his boyhood church, First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick. Throughout his ministry, John served on many boards, including the Board of Directors of Columbia Theological Seminary, the Board of Trustees of Thornwell Home for Children, the Board of Trustees of Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, and the Board of Visitors of Presbyterian College. He also served as moderator of the Synod of the Southeast and as president of the Mental Health Association of Georgia. Locally, he served as president of the Rotary Club of St. Simons and as a board member of the Latin American Resource Center and the Coastal Coalition for Children.
Outside of his ministry, John most enjoyed being with family and friends, tennis, traveling, playing the cello, and laughing, especially at corny “dad” jokes.
A genuinely gentle, kind, and loving man, John was adored by his wife, children, and extended family and will be greatly missed by them all, as well as the many others whose lives he positively impacted, both professionally and as friends.
A memorial service to remember John and worship God will be held at St. Simons Presbyterian Church, located at 205 Kings Way on St. Simons, Thursday, April 30th at 2 p.m.
