

John Joseph Loughlin of Sea Island, GA, passed away peacefully the morning of May 18, 2010. He was 86 years old. He was born on March 17, 1924 and graduated from St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ and also did graduate work at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Merrill Lynch in 1951 and retired from the firm in 1997. At Merrill Lynch, he served in many executive management positions, most notably a Founding Director of Tax Investments. With his love of Glynn County, he was the first to open a New York Stock Exchange office in Brunswick in 1979. He was active in many Glynn County civic organizations, namely Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees serving as Chairman for 14 years. He was Executive Director of the Southeast Georgia Boy Scouts Golf Tournament and a member of the Diocese of Savannah Finance Committee. He was vested as a Knight of Malta in 1981. He is survived by Dee Schnabel Loughlin of 57 years of marriage and five children. Laura Loughlin of New York City. John Loughlin, Jr. of Palm Coast, FL, Megan Loughlin Nerz of Raleigh, NC, Keith Loughlin of Charlotte, NC, and Mary Beth Loughlin Lacy of Palm Desert, CA. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church on St. Simons Island at 11 am Friday, May 21 with Monsignor John Kenneally presiding.
