John Wesley Blake, 81, of Brunswick, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 6-8PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 10AM with Father Will Logsdon officiating. Pallbearers will be: Harry Edgy, Marlin Edgy, Jerry Barnett, Wyley Carter, Bob Katoski and Stephen Murphy. Burial will follow at Homeward Cemetery with a reception afterwards at the Horse Stamp Inn, Waverly, GA.
John was born May 12, 1931 to the late Edwin and Pearl Blake in Gross, Florida. He is a native of Camden County, Georgia and graduated from Camden County High School. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. In 1968, John retired from the military after 21 years of service and went to work at Brunswick Floors, later becoming owner and retiring in 1993. John is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fleet Reserve. He was also a member of St. Francis Catholic Parish. John was a loving father, husband and grandfather. He loved spending time and traveling with his family and friends.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Marie Blake. He is survived by his son: Bobby Blake (Julie) of Brunswick; a daughter: Florene Radke (Steve) of Brunswick; a brother: George (Docky) Blake of Yulee, FL; five grandchildren: Tammy Winters, Shane VanWinkle, Robert Blake, Ashley Blake and Brandon Blake; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
