I don't know how I missed the sad news of Johnny's passing until just recently. I was one of his many friends growing up in Baxley. Words can not express my deep sadness--and bitterly regret that we did not stay more closely in contact.

So many memories of us--Cliff, Bill, Johnny and I--playing around the school as young kids, smoking under the gym. We all admired Johnny's good looks and athleticism. He was one of the best friends a kid could ask for--now may he rest in peace.

"Johnny, run long-- 71-Quick to the middle!"

We love you Johnny! You were a wonderful cousin, so loving and kind. We will miss you terribly. We hadn't gotten to see each other in quiet a while but that never changed the fact of how much I loved you. You went through a lot during your life but you handled every trial with grace and dignity. We were so very proud of you. Tell our family in heaven we love them. See you again one day! Love you always! Your cousin Jeanne Young Sanders Crews.

Pauline and Gail, it was a beautiful service and a very fitting military send off.
We will never forget him and all he did for so many in this community. Gail you hang strong. I was so proud to have Jamie recognize and hug me at the graveside. Pauline, thank you for making Johnny the happiest man he has ever been.
If either of you need me...I'm easy to find. Shirley Martin Snell

Sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. Johnny and I had some good times growing up in Baxley. It was Appling County Pirate football's loss and Glynn Academy's gain when he moved to Brunswick. We lived in the neighborhood around the old school and played ball together on a regular basis. The last time I saw him was in a parking lot near I 95 when I was with the DOT and he was with the Post Office. We had kept in touch some through the years but now I wish we had done it more.

Dear Pauline, Johnny was my friend and teammate from the 1964 team at Glynn Academy. We were both on temporary duty in Puerto Rico in 1986. I enjoyed seeing him and working with him again. He was a good NCO. Also, I always enjoyed seeing him at the class reunions and talking about old times. You and all Johnny's family are in my prayers.

Pauline our thoughts have been with you and Johnny these last few weeks. We have known you both for a very short time but feel like it's been years! Sometimes in life you meet people and that miracle happens. We know that the grieving process will take some time, just to let you know that we're only a phone call away if you need us for moral support or any other thing you need. We love you both.
