Mr. Alongi was born in 1935, in Washington, DC to the late Thomas and Concetta C. Alongi. He married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Ulrich soon after graduation. Joe moved his wife and young family to Marietta, GA in 1972, where he worked for over 30 years at ARA food service and dedicated another 10 years of his life serving as the purchasing supervisor for Cobb County, Georgia before retiring. He served as an usher at St. Camillus and Catholic Church of St. Ann and was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Joe had a deep passion for sports, particularly baseball, and he had the opportunity to play during his college years. College football also held a special place in his heart, bringing him great joy and entertainment.
For the past four years, he was a cherished member of the Camden County community. One of Joe's greatest sources of contentment was his screen porch, from which he could admire the serene beauty of the lake at his home in St. Mary’s. This peaceful spot brought him countless moments of relaxation and tranquility. Joe was a quick-witted storyteller and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Deanna Alongi of St. Mary’s, GA, and three children: Judie Alongi Mazih and husband Joseph of St. Mary’s, GA; Thomas Joseph Alongi and wife Susan of Canton, GA; Dennis Michael Alongi and wife Kirsten of Marietta, GA. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, a son, Anthony David Alongi, preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 on June 23rd at the Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 2000 Cobb Parkway SE, Marietta, GA 30060.
