Joseph was born March 13, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia the son of the late James Knox Smith and the late Martha Ann Durden Smith. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Smith and Charles Smith.
Joseph was a native of Norfolk, Virginia, but resided in Brunswick, Georgia most of his life. He was a professional concrete finisher. Joseph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing. He loved spending time with family and friends. He also loved attending various sporting events watching his grandchildren play the sports. Joseph will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
Left to cherish Joseph’s memories are his loving wife, Ponnie Smith; four daughters, Bonnie Edge, Sherry Vickers, Ashley Brantley, and Jody Smith; seven grandchildren, William Brantley, Abagail Brantley, Kaden Smith, Amber Hayes, Leigh Ann Carter, Wiley Strickland, and Alexis Strickland; one precious great grandchild, Parker Monighetti; three sisters, Linda Broestler, MaryAnn Fentress, and Patricia Cardwell; two brothers, Kenneth Smith and James Smith. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Altamaha Park in Everett, Georgia with Elder Bob Cardwell officiating. You are cordially invited to join the family in celebrating a life well lived.
