With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joy Hightower Youngner, who departed this life on May 23 at the age of 76. Born in Brunswick, Georgia, Joy spent most of her life in Brunswick and on Saint Simons Island, with a brief time in Atlanta where she attended college. She was a devout Christian and a retired teacher, and she will be remembered with love for the life she lived, the devotion she gave to her family, and the lasting impact she had on all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on May 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in downtown Brunswick. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and to honor her life.
Joy is survived by her three children, Joshua Glynn Youngner and his wife, Zelda Bierman Youngner, Kristen Youngner Love and her husband, Everette Bryan Love, and her youngest child, Jesse Sidney Youngner; and by her granddaughter, Catherine Hayes Youngner, daughter of Joshua. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Glynn Youngner, who passed away nine years ago at the age of 70.
Joy also found happiness in the simple routines that made life special. She enjoyed watching shows like The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives, and while she was away at work, she would set the VCR so she would not miss an episode. She was also known for her humor and the funny things she would often say, bringing laughter and warmth to those around her.
