Katharine "Kappy" O'Connor

Katharine “Kappy” Talbott (Jones) O’Connor of St. Simons Island, GA, died peacefully and at home on October 1, 2026, after a great and happy run of 92 years. She was born on March 10, 1934, to Bill and Kit Jones of Sea Island, GA.

Kappy was an avid pilot and intrepid traveler, and her friendly demeanor, generosity, and sense of hospitality were beloved by all. Called “Mamoo” by her grandchildren, she was known for her love of dogs and horses, her joy at being in the woods, and her indomitable spirit and grit.

She is survived by her four daughters, Kit Giery, Marianna Menkol (Joe), Danny O’Connor, and Sarah Steenrod (Wright); six grandchildren, Katharine (Iñaki), Michael (Mary Glen), Jim (Jess), John, Isobel, and Eliza; four great-granddaughters; many cherished nieces and nephews; and her faithful golden retriever, Bear #3.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Paul F. O’Connor, her grandson Bill Menkol, and her son-in-law Rick Giery.

Her daughters would like to thank Eva Herring and Deanna Cameron, who were like family.

A private family burial is planned.
