Katherine “Betty” Rasmussen, 82, of Brunswick, departed this life Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Hospice of The Golden Isles.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Glyndale Baptist Church with Reverend Ken Creekmoore officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery with Trey Godley, Ryan Godley, Jonathan Godley, Amber Boyd, Ashley Fraser, Nicholas Fraser, Casey Williams and Jonesia Williams serving as pallbearers.

Born December 31, 1938 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late George and Rosa Mae L. Norton, she was a retired administrator for the Coastal Health District. Mrs. Rasmussen was a lifelong resident of Glynn County and was a graduate of Glynn Academy. She and her husband, Dr. Rasmussen, were medical missionaries for 15 years in Mexico. She was a member of Jekyll Island United Methodist Church, The Jekyll Island Arts Association, and Friends of Jekyll Island. She enjoyed quilting and photography, writing stories, and in her younger days she was a softball pitcher playing in local teams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Warren Alan Rasmussen, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her children, Renee Ferry of Brunswick, Guy Patrick Fraser, Jr. and wife Lee of Brunswick, and Katherine Spaulding and husband Paul of Waynesville, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister, Marie Beck of Kingsport, TN, her Mexican son, Arnulfo Macias, and a step son, Steve Rasmussen and wife Patty of Conyers.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, May 14, 2021 from 6pm until 8 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Betty was my friend, as she was to every pastor who served Jekyll Island UMC. She was honest and kind, a combination that is truly rare. My prayers are with all of her family and friends.
