Katherine "Betty" Coty

Katherine Elizabeth "Betty" Coty, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia. She was 80 years old.

Born on January 19, 1946, in Clinton, South Carolina, Betty lived a life defined by faith, compassion, adventure, and unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Al Coty, and together they built a life centered on family, service, and cherished traditions.

Betty was the proud mother of Todd Whittemore (Megan) and Jeff Whittemore (Meg). Nothing brought her greater joy than being "Nana" to her grandchildren, Courtney Flugaur (Troy), Brendan Whittemore, Katie Whittemore, Cooper Whittemore, and Ella Whittemore. Betty treasured every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, milestones, and everyday moments, surrounding each of them with unconditional love.

She is also survived by her sister, Sue Edmonds (Hugh); her brother, Bob Crooks (Cassandra); her nephew, Burns Edmonds and her niece, Robin Boyer.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Katherine Crooks, and her beloved grandson, Andrew Whittemore, whose memory she carried close to her heart.

Those who knew Betty will remember her remarkable energy and zest for life. She embraced a healthy lifestyle with twice-daily walks, bike rides on Jekyll Island, and a lifelong love of caring for her many cats. An avid reader, she could often be found with a book in hand, frequently finishing several each week, and she never met a puzzle she wasn't eager to solve.

Adventure was always part of Betty's spirit. She enjoyed memorable cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, made several trips to Singapore, and famously celebrated her 60th birthday by skydiving—a perfect reflection of her courage and enthusiasm for life's experiences.

Betty's generous heart extended far beyond her family. She faithfully volunteered in her community, was a frequent blood donor, and joyfully served Christ through First Presbyterian Church and later College Place Methodist Church in Brunswick. Her quiet acts of kindness, steadfast faith, and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Above all, Betty will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud Nana, and a faithful friend. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the lives she touched through service, and the countless memories filled with laughter, encouragement, and love.

The family invites all who knew Betty to celebrate her life and the joy she brought to others. A Visitation will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, GA followed by a Memorial Service at 11 AM.
