Born on September 24, 1951, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Ken was the son of the late Lewis Hall Helm and Elsie Ellen Tate Helm. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Clarke Helm.
Ken led a life marked by hard work, faith, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of everyday living. In his early years, he worked as an ironworker—a demanding profession that reflected his strength and determination. Later in life, he pursued a new path by earning his LPN license. With this training, he dedicated himself to helping others through his work in addiction treatment centers. After relocating to Georgia, Ken continued to serve with compassion and care—first by assisting Harold Sigman on weekends and later by helping care for his in-laws when they moved into his home.
Ken’s love for the water found its perfect outlet when he joined the UGA Marine Institute on Sapelo Island. This role allowed him to combine his professional skills with his passion for boating and the natural world around him.
A man of deep faith, Ken cherished his relationship with his Lord and Savior above all else. For many years, he shared this devotion through music at Cowboy Church—later known as Cornerstone Church—where he played guitar during worship services. More recently, he began attending First Baptist Church so that he could worship alongside his beloved wife Connie.
Ken found joy in life’s quiet moments: sipping coffee on the porch while gazing out over the marshland; strumming his banjo or guitar each day; or mowing the lawn with satisfaction and gratitude for the beauty that surrounded him. He was a loving husband to Connie Helm and a devoted brother to Cynthia James. His home was also shared with three cherished fur babies—Gibson, Ellie, and Zoey—who brought him daily companionship and comfort.
Those who knew Ken remember him as a kind-hearted man who lived with purpose and humility. He never missed an opportunity to share his testimony or offer encouragement rooted in faith.
May Kenneth Thomas Helm’s memory bring peace and inspiration to all who were blessed to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Darien, 201 5th Street W, Darien, GA.
