

Born on June 5, 1939, in Brunswick, Georgia, Larry was the son of Wilfred Lonnie and Theodora Leona Madden Youngner. He graduated from Glynn Academy, Class of 1957, then earned his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1963.
After his graduation from Georgia Tech, Larry worked for General Electric in Illinois and North Carolina before returning home as supervisor of the wood fiber operations of Concrete Products, Inc., Brunswick where he progressed to manufacturing superintendent of all plant operations. This experience led him to LaGrange, where he was production superintendent for an 800-employee sewing operation at International Playtex, Inc. He returned to Brunswick in 1973 to expand his learning in motel construction, fast food chain facilities construction and management, and industrial electric construction and installation. In 1978, he served as research engineer for the Georgia Institute of Technology Industrial Extension Division in Augusta. From 1980 until 1988, he was vice president/general manager of Exco, Inc. in Woodbine. In 1988, he became director of plant operations at Brunswick College, now Coastal College of Georgia, until his retirement in 2004.
Larry will be remembered fondly for his love of his family, dedication to his faith community at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where he was a junior warden, and his unwavering support of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He enjoyed boating, sports cars, tennis, gardening, and cooking, among myriad interests.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas; and his sister, Doris Evelyn.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Debra Lynn Mobley Youngner; his son, Larry Douglas Youngner, Jr. and wife Kristine, of Cape Coral, Florida; his son, Gregory Caples Youngner and wife Angela, of Bloomingdale, Georgia; his daughter Andi Nicole Youngner Scriven and husband Lee, of St. Simons Island, Georgia; his four grandchildren, Cole Gregory Youngner of Portland, Oregon; Seth Peterson Youngner and his wife Cierra, of Winchester, Virginia; Tessa Sabine Youngner, of Memphis, Tennessee; Lauren L. Beasley and husband, Jonathan, of Garner, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Following the service, the family will receive visitors at a reception in the church’s parish hall. Larry will be laid to rest in a family plot in Brunswick at a later date.
