Larry was born in Niagara Falls, NY and was preceded in death by his parents, John Luke and Joyce Yngve Barrows. He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Barrows; three sons, Michael Scott Barrows (Kimberly), Vincent Jay Barrows (Shari) and Nicholas John Barrows (Jennifer); five grandkids, Annalise, Isabelle, Rebekah, James and Camden Barrows; a brother, Edward Barrows (Cathy) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry graduated from Allegheny High School in Pittsburg, PA and obtained his college degree from Pennsylvania State University. He later earned his PhD from Colorado School of Mines, majoring in Geotechtonics. Larry served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. As a professional geophysicist, his academic and scholarly interest extended from air and space research to environmental sciences.
Larry was a consummate outdoorsman with a love of hang gliding, exceptional marksmanship and an enthusiasm for camping. His hobbies included understanding the geology of his environment, caring for his dog and rock climbing. He taught his family an appreciation of the outdoors and interest in the Boy Scouts.
In retirement, Larry remained close to his family.
