

Leon Darwin Brown, age 86, of Brunswick, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Mr. Brown (Darwin) proudly served as a tank driver in the US Army during WWII. He had been retired for many years at the time of his death. However, prior to his retirement he worked in the field of gas and propane and he owned and operated Williston Gas Company, in Williston, FL for a time. After retirement, his expertise in the field of gas and propane was often requested, where he performed management, supervisory and consulting positions.
He actively participated in the Hardees Breakfast Group where the members and staff had become a “second” family to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Essie Mae Mosley Brown; his first wife, Minnie Culver Brown; a son, George Brown, and a sister, Sarah Mae Boardman.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Lemmond Brown of Brunswick; a daughter, Cindy Douglas and her husband, George, of Williston, FL; a son, Eddy Brown of Wheeling, WV; four step-children, Beverly Blackstone of Brunswick, Cindy Siko, and her husband Bill, of Mechanicsville, MD, Ken Lemmond, and his wife Sue, of Brunswick and Steve Lemmond of Brunswick; two sisters, Tenella Smith of Savannah and Faye Sparre of Brunswick; eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm at Christian Renewal Church with Reverend Bill Ligon officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hardee’s Breakfast Group and staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Darwin’s honor to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
