

Lettie V. Lovin, 93, of St. Simons Island died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy McMillan and Rev. Ron Spillers officiating. Entombment will follow at Brunswick Memorial Park Mausoleum with John Michael Ragsdale, Jason Stack, Jeffrey Stack, Cary Kerlin, Wendy Manor, Mack Sullivan, and Wayne Lovin, serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Grace Sunday School Class and the Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies.
Born July 4, 1920 in Elbert County, Georgia to the late George Alexander and Alma Maude H. Vaughan, she graduated from Bowman High School in Elbert County. Mrs. Lovin then went to secretarial school and became a bookkeeper for Universal Laundry in Brunswick. She had been a resident of Glynn County for over 72 years living in Brunswick and then moving to St. Simons Island. Mrs. Lovin became a member of First Baptist Church of Brunswick in 1938 and served on many church committees such as nominating, hospitality and evangelism, and served as an office assistant as well. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, was a member of Women’s Missionary Union, as well as the choir. Mrs. Lovin was President of PTA twice in the 1950’s and under her term Fourth Street School was renamed “C.B. Greer” in his honor. She also was a member of the Women’s Club, Junior Women’s Club, and was a Hospital Auxiliary Pink Lady. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Clyde Lovin, her siblings, Galphin Vaughan, Bama G. Rozier, Muzette Adams, Floyce Dye, Max Vaughan, Grace Burton, Moses Vaughan, and Rebekah Kerlin.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Lovin and husband Stephen Horstman, and Daphne Stack and husband Ronald, all of St. Simons Island, a brother, William H. Vaughan and wife Barbara of Elberton, GA, three grandchildren, John Michael Ragsdale and wife Stacey, Jason Stack and wife Stephanie, and Jeffrey Stack and wife Emily, great grandchildren, Cheyenne Ragsdale, Cyrus Ragsdale, Sophia Ragsdale, Raven Stack, and Jada Stack, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6PM until 8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice or to First Baptist Church of Brunswick. www.edomillerandsons.com
