Lillian was born in Claxton, Georgia, to parents Edward L. Oglesbee, Sr. and Dorather Hendrix Oglesbee. She worked at Georgia Fruitcake Company before moving to Brunswick. After she relocated, she worked for many years at St. Simons Drugs. Lillian married James Smith in 1976 and became a homemaker.
Lillian loved her Church and her Church family, having taught Sunday school at Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years. She loved gardening and flowers and designed many arrangements for the church services over the years. Lillian was a special “second mother” to many children in the Brunswick area during her early years working from home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Mamie Oglesbee and Barbara Jean Oglesbee, both of Evans County.
Lillian is survived by her husband, James Raymond Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Michelle (Smith) Zynda and Daniel Kevin Zynda of Brunswick; a sister, Syble Rose Ahl (Gerald) of Brunswick, two brothers, Edward L. Oglesbee, Jr. (Linda) of Claxton and James Wayne Oglesbee (Barbara) of Lawrenceville and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:30 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1010 Old Jesup Road, Brunswick.
