

Lois Paul Heim, 88, passed away peacefully September 23, 2024, in Brunswick, Georgia, with her family by her side. Lois was born in Charleston, South Carolina on November 2, 1935, to the late John C. Paul and Marian Antwine Paul.
Lois was a loving homemaker to her family. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, gardening and painting. The passion she enjoyed the most was reading. Mystery novels and current events, she always had a stack of newspapers and books nearby even after she got her Kindle. She also was involved in various organizations while living in Hanover, Massachusetts serving on boards of the Hanover Junior Women’s Club (founding member), the Hanover’s Advisory Board, Conservation Committee, and Hanover Visiting Nurses Association.
She was raised in the Southern Baptist faith but converted to Roman Catholicism when she married her husband, Ralph. She taught religious education at St. Mary’s in Hanover and volunteered with the Vacation Bible School at St. Gabriel’s after moving to Fayetteville, Georgia.
Lois was an impeccable dresser known particularly for always wearing a hat. She had an extensive collection. A large majority of her collection has been donated to the Island Players to hopefully be seen in a future production.
She is survived by her three daughters, Marily (Ricky) Barfield, Catherine Howland Roth, and Susanna (Patrick) Smith; grandchildren, Katherine (Mitch) Smith, Richard (Alli) Barfield, Nathan Smith, Rachel (Will) Barfield; great grandson, Henry Smith; her devoted companion, Gwendolyn Jackson; sister-in-laws, Margo (Ron) Martin and Joyce Paul; nephews, Chris and John.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband for 64 years, Ralph Heim; granddaughter, Emily Smith; her sister Ennis Wynn; her brother, F. Rhett Paul; and son-in-law, Gary Roth.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 28, 2024, at St. Williams Catholic Church on St. Simons Island with Fr. Mark Van Alstine officiating. Interment will be at Oglethorpe Memorial Garden Cemetery.
