Born February 13, 1945, the daughter of Ted and Mildred Strawn, Wendy spent her entire life in Glynn County — a place she loved deeply and called home in every sense of the word. A proud graduate of Glynn Academy, class of 1963, she is survived by her husband, Lee Sams; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ray Croslyn of Saint Simons Island; and her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Jenny Moore of Kennesaw, Georgia. Wendy adored her grandchildren — Cody, Emily, Dalton, Madison, and Ashley — and recently delighted in the arrival of two great-grandchildren, Levi and Luke, who brought her tremendous joy in her final days. She is also survived by her lifelong friend of 77 years, Nancy Linkenhoker, who has been by her side since they were just three years old.
Wendy built a life rich with purpose and connection.
She worked at the Brunswick News and later served as Marketing Director at Glynn Place Mall, where her warmth and natural ability to bring people together left a lasting impression. But it was Saint Simons Island itself that truly held her heart. She spent her days nurturing lifelong friendships, soaking in the beauty of the island, and being a steady, welcoming presence to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Wendy had a gift for friendship. She never met a stranger, and those who crossed her path were better for it. Her true love for everyone she met was evident in all that she did, and that love will remain with those who knew her long after she is gone.
She will be dearly missed.
