Madge J. Comer

Madge graduated from Edmond High School. She then went on to graduate from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC with a degree in Education. While home from college she met a young Air Force Lieutenant, Emri Comer Jr. whom she married in 1958. They then moved to Brunswick where they raised their two children. She returned to college and acquired her Masters and Education Specialist degrees from Georgia Southern University. She taught middle school in the Glynn County school system for over 30 years before retirement. She was a member of the Exchangettes Club for many years. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Brunswick where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Duncan Sunday School Class .She loved her church and church family. She also enjoyed her time volunteering at the SEGA Regional Hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her many friends especially her book club group who celebrated her birthday the day before her death.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Emri Comer Jr. She is survived by her son, Emri Comer III and his wife Jana; her daughter, Cathy Dowdy and her husband Mike; her grandchildren, Christina Melton and her husband Andrew, Haley Comer, Nicole Dowdy, and Ryan Comer. She is also survived by several cousins and nieces. She also leaves behind her beloved significant other, Bob Hayes and his family.

A visitation will be held Saturday January 15th at 11:00 at First United Methodist Church with a memorial service following at 12:00.Dr. Wright Culpepper and Rev. Richard Soper will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
