Margaret was born in 1956 in Gonzales, Louisiana, to Marjorie and Tulio Prettelt Jr. The eldest of ten children, she grew up in a modest house hand-build by her father. She attended school in Ascension Parish and graduated from East Ascension High School in 1974. She continued her education at Louisiana State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
While in Louisiana, Margaret met the love of her life, Larry. The two married and eventually shared more than forty wonderful years together. In 1991, they made their home on St. Simons Island, where they raised their son, Matthew.
Margaret enjoyed a rewarding career spanning more than twenty years at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Brunswick, Georgia. She was proud to support training operations in numerous roles throughout her career.
Margaret had a remarkable gift for finding joy in life and sharing that joy with everyone around her. Known for her infectious laughter, positive attitude, and vibrant personality, she could brighten any room she entered. She loved to sing and dance, and she embraced life’s moments with enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure. Travel was one of Margaret’s greatest pleasures, especially cruising with Larry throughout the Caribbean and across the Atlantic. When she was home, Margaret was fond of cooking and sharing the flavors of her Louisiana roots with friends and visitors.
Above all, Margaret treasured her family. She loved sharing stories about her childhood and growing up in a large household. Family was at the heart of everything, and she carried that value with her throughout her life. She will be remembered most of all as a loving wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother whose greatest joy came from those she loved so dearly. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, reminding us that life’s greatest happiness is found in the moments we share together.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Laurence Francis Sullivan; her parents, Marjorie and Tulio Prettelt Jr; and her brother, Eric Prettelt.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Sullivan (Kristi); her two grandchildren, Henry and Charlotte; and her siblings, Tulio Prettelt III, Kevin Prettelt, Carlos Prettelt, Gordon Prettelt, Phyllis Babin, Monica Waller, Corey Prettelt, and Marla Schledewitz.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at St. William Catholic Church on St. Simons Island, at eleven o’clock a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Margaret’s honor to Memory Matters Glynn, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families in the Golden Isles affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
