Marie was raised in a one red light town, Pulaski, TN, with her three sisters and brother. She graduated from Peabody College in Nashville, TN.
She moved to St. Simons Island and began her teaching career at St. Simons Elementary and Goodyear Elementary. She is quoted as saying “I thought I had made it to paradise”.
She married and her dream of a family and children began immediately. They were her heart and the loves of her life. And as a mother and sister, daughter and teacher, she always considered the needs of others before her own . . . listening to strangers heartaches and loving them with words of wisdom, kindness and hope were part of her everyday life.
A special thank you for her wonderful, loving caregivers (her angels) Sandy Lane and Kym Shafer, and Darlene Harper and Angie Morris.
She is preceded in death by two of her children Davy Colvin and Janice Ann, and her son-in-law Don Paul Hinspeter, as well as her brother and two of her sisters.
She is survived by her sister Frannie Hughes and her long-time companion Don Blocker. And her legacies of heart continue through her children Stephen Edwards (Judy), Susan Peterson (Steve), Leslie Decker, and Kathy Hinspeter; her grandchildren Ryan DeVouton, Kyle Edwards, Brenna Malmquist, Chad Peterson, Kaylee Edwards, Michael Malmquist, Clayton Hinspeter and Autumn Hinspeter; and her two precious great-grandbabies Jake DeVouton and Thomas Barrett.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 5, at 1:30pm at Lovely Lane Chapel followed by her memorial service at 2:00pm. Burial will be at Christ Church with a reception following at her home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
