Mary Ellen Christian

Mary Ellen Christian, age 87, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away in her home from natural causes on March 10, 2023. She was the third of three children and only daughter born to William Howard (Sr.) and Lois Agnes (Bell) Hall, on November 5, 1935, in Moultrie, Georgia. Mary Ellen was named for her father’s mother, nee Mary Ellen Brightwell. Mary Ellen was a lifelong Southern Baptist. Always a straight A student, Mary Ellen attended all grades through high school in Moultrie, Georgia, graduated from the University of Georgia in 1957, and then became a French teacher at the highly accredited Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia – the town Mary Ellen would call home for the rest of her life. In Brunswick, Mary Ellen met James A. (Jake) Christian. Mary Ellen and Jake married in a ceremony in Mary Ellen’s childhood home in Moultrie, Georgia, in 1966, and they remained married until Jake’s death in Brunswick in 1995. Mary Ellen had a passion for visiting France where she was fluent in the language. She accompanied her high school students on several trips to that country serving as a chaperone and tour guide. Mary Ellen had a lifelong love for dogs -- she always had several and they were always happy, healthy, and well trained. She supported several animal care organizations. Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jake, and her two brothers Jack M. Hall and Howard W. Hall, Jr. She is survived by nieces and nephews Barbara Hall Dabney and husband George of Tomball, Texas; Haley (Hall) Hyatt and husband Barry; Randolph M. Hall and wife Meg of Watkins, Georgia; and John M. Hall of Moultrie, Georgia. Mary Ellen Christian will be laid to rest next to her beloved Jake in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery after a grave side ceremony at 3:30 pm on March 15, 2023.
