

Mary Kathryn “Cappy” Duval, 93, of Brunswick departed this life Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Sears Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Brunswick with Rev. Jim McIlrath officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Wayne Ervin, Roger Tinkham, Bob Wendel, Bob Deal, Steve Pittman, James Walker, and Bobby Haven serving as pallbearers. Honorary pall bearers will be John Lovvorn, Russell Jacobs Jr., Bill Brown, Ralph Denty and the Open Door Sunday School Class.
Born March 28, 1922 in Carbon Hill, Alabama to the late Rev. Robert Lee and Ethel C. Baker, she graduated from Huntington College in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Public School Music. She was a member of the Tri Sigma honorary sorority. Mary married William P. “Bill” Duval in 1946 and they moved to several locations before settling in Glynn County in 1957. Along the way, she worked as a Director of Religious Education, and a public school music teacher. After arriving in Brunswick, she worked briefly as a music teacher for the Glynn County School system and served as the Children’s Music and Handbell Choirs Director for First United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She supported many charities and was an active participant with First United Methodist Church in the Open Door Sunday School class and as an adult choir member. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William P. Duval, Jr., a son James Duval, a daughter, Linda Duval, 4 sisters, Grace Baker, Naomi Cox, Ruth Truss, and Robbie Gaston, and a brother, George Baker.
Surviving are two sons W. Paul Duval III (Jodi), of Seattle, WA and John A. Duval (Kathleen) of Lynn Haven, FL, one daughter Kathryn A. Pickels (Chad) of Brunswick, one brother John E. Baker (June) of Birmingham, AL, eight grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday night at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home and requests memorials be made to the Abiding Memorial fund for music ministry support of the First United Methodist Church.
