Mary Alice Calder Fouche, 93, of St. Simons Island, passed quietly and peacefully from her earthly life into her greater life in heaven on Wednesday at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home on St. Simons Island. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons with Rev. Gary Fouche officiating. Entombment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until the funeral hour in the chapel.
She was born December 1 1924 in Lakeland, Fl. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James T. Fouche Sr. Mary is survived by her sons, James T. Fouche Jr (Fran) of North Carolina and Walter E. Fouche (Theresa) of St. Simons Island and 3 grandchildren, Amy Cathleen Fouche Mullikin (Rick), James Michael Fouche and David Thomas Fouche all of North Carolina.
She retired from the American National Bank after many years of service, but her primary focus was always on supporting her husband and her “boys”. She was a devoted wife and selfless mother and friend to many. She was involved in many activities through the years, from scouting, Demolay, sports, or schooling she found the time to make a contribution.
Always with a smile and a great story, she loved her time at the hair dresser considering that her social hour. She was thoughtful, remembering birthdays and special occasions of the many nieces and nephews in her life as well as her immediate family.
She was direct yet kind, never afraid to give her opinion, yet with a velvet touch.
Adversity did not linger long with her as she dismissed the trials and tribulations of life with a great outlook, spiritual awareness and laughter. She was a great cook (and has a sign in the kitchen, stating “of all the rooms in this house, people like my kitchen best”).
She had a charitable heart and gave to many worthy causes in the St. Simons Island/Brunswick area as well as to several veterans groups.
The family is grateful to the staff of Magnolia Manor and Heartland Hospice for the care given her in her last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manna House of Brunswick, or any veteran organization. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
