Mary Gertrude "Gert" McNally

Her parents, Jack and Alice Murray Borth, welcomed her into this world on Valentine’s Day 1948 in Darby, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 1965 from Archbishop Prendergast High School, Drexel Hill, PA, and from The Philadelphia Community College with an associates in arts degree.

After graduation, Gert worked in the registrar’s office of Villanova University where she met a student and husband to be, Bob McNally. Married in the Villanova University Chapel in 1971, the couple settled in Ft Knox, Kentucky. Gert embraced the new army lifestyle and worked for the Louisville Fund for the Arts. After discharge from the army, the couple moved to the University of Pennsylvania where Gert worked in the graduate school office while her husband studied.

She was a devoted partner and wife who did not mind many moves including Pittsburgh, Philadelphia for a second time, and England. It was the four years in England, living in the next town from Windsor Castle, that she shined as a mother with three children and was a social spark for the British neighbors.

The family returned to the states to Bradenton, FL and then Marietta, GA where for 32 years she was an integral part of the Princeton Lakes neighborhood, raising children and working as a sales associate for TJ Maxx and Hallmark. She was a part-time resident of St. Simons since 1998 and full time since 2018.

Gert was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Alice Borth, and brother John Borth.

Gert leaves behind a loving family including her devoted husband of 55 years, Dr. Bob McNally, son Matt McNally (Missy Marrs) guardians for Alex Kaercher, daughter Maureen McNally Cobb (Heath) and granddaughters Audrey and Madeline, and son Joe McNally (Samantha Marcott) with grandchildren Kiera and Finnegan. She has two surviving sisters, Patty Wilson and Sharon Burkard Simmons. Gert’s memory will continue through close family and friends, Christine Vogeley McNally, Marilyn and Neal Steiner, Kathy McNally, John and Joan Rossi, Lou Holdsworth, numerous Princeton Lakes neighbors from Marietta and so many others.

Always involved with her church, Gert volunteered continually for programs to help those less fortunate. Always compassionate, she saw the good in people and was a mom to others outside of the family. She was devout in her faith, devoted to her children and grandchildren and lifelong partner to her spouse. She was always known as the sweetest person around as she followed the family motto “Always an Adventure.”

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at St. William Catholic Church, St. Simons Island, with internment at their columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help homeless veterans at the Golden Isles Veterans Village, PO Box 1884, Brunswick, GA 31521-1884
