Nancy Starr Johnston

September 20, 1929May 21, 2020

Nancy Starr Johnston, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went home to be with her Lord on May 21, 2020.

Nancy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 20, 1929 to Gladys Thrower Starr and Homer David Starr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles McCready Johnston, Jr., and her son, Charles McCready Johnston, III. She is survived and dearly loved by her sons Michael F. Johnston, Sr. (Judy) of Brunswick, Georgia and Mark Johnston of St. Simons Island, Georgia, her daughter, Rebecca Smith (Sid) of Portland, Oregon, daughter-in-law Maureen Conley Delaney of Gresham, Oregon, her ten grandchildren, Matthew Johnston, Anne Johnston, Michael Johnston, Jr., Libby Staab (Patrick), David Johnston (Kaylee), Madison Johnston (Justin), Jonathan Delaney, Katie Delaney, Jess Smith, Christine Smith, five great grandchildren, Brayden Allen, McKenzie Johnston, Lucas Johnston, Stella Allen, Ezekiel Steinke; and her cat that she loved dearly, Sassy.

Nancy was joyful, generous, loving, and had the best sense of humor. She believed in being involved in her church and community. She loved volunteering, playing in her bridge club, and spending time with her family. Above all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While these words do not even begin to show you who Nancy was, she was the family’s moon, “Starr” and sun. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her.

The family will receive family and friends between 2:00 and 3:00 PM Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 17, 2020 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. You are cordially invited to join the family in celebrating a life well lived. We sincerely request that all in attendance observe the states social distancing procedures. I remember Ms. Nancy, from Bethel Church, with sweet memories of her smiling face and gracious, loving spirit. Know she is now rejoicing in heaven!

I had known Nancy for at least 23 years and last week I was trying to find a current Email address for her when I found out that she had recently died. I had wanted to let her know that I had just found out that we are 2nd Cousins, Twice Removed through her mother's THROWERs and my mother's THROWERs . I had really wanted to discuss this with her, but guess it will now have to wait until Heaven.
Nancy was a dedicated Christian, a lovely woman, a good friend, and will certainly be missed. ~ Meredith Drew Trawick
