

Nancy R. Meschke, 84, of Brunswick, departed this life Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM Saturday, December 19, 2015 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Born January 21, 1931 in Yonkers, New York to the late Hugh William and Marguerite R. Ross, she was a homemaker and spent countless hours as a volunteer and advocate for Mental Health Programs and was appointed to two Georgia Governor’s Advisory Councils for Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Nancy toured Georgia giving talks on behalf of mental health to more than a dozen groups throughout the state. She was invited by the State Mental Health Association of North Carolina to do a similar tour. Her energies were extended to other areas of charitable work. She started a learn-to-swim program for Cerebral Palsy children, and coached the YMCA swim team in Rome, Georgia while residing with her family in that community. She also started a similar program involving over 500 children in Chillicothe, Ohio. Most recently, Mrs. Meschke taught a class at St. Simons by The Sea on how to cope with mental illness. Nancy and her husband found time to circle the globe twice, and visited about 100 countries from Australia to Siberia. She had been a resident to Glynn County since 1976 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years Karl W. Meschke of Brunswick, three children, Paul W. Meschke and wife Jamice of St. Simons, Janice Meschke Whorton and husband Russell of Johns Creek, GA, and Ross Allen Meschke and wife Beth of Evans, GA, five grandchildren, Paul W. Meschke Jr. and wife Autumn, William Matthew Whorton, Caroline Emily Whorton, Davis Ross Meschke, and Laura Beth Meschke, one great grandchild, Adelyn Cinclaire Meschke, and a sister, Janice Ross Beiter of Silver Springs, MD.
